You know how Kindle notes and bookmarks sync flawlessly across all devices and ereaders? Kobo doesn't do that! Notes created in Kobo apps sync across apps, but NOT to ereaders, and vice versa-it's the most ridiculous thing I've heard of, but there it is.
Of course, Kindle handles DRM-free MOBI files from anywhere too. But since EPUB is a native filetype, I can buy and sideload ebooks from several other stores happily. I avoid such books as much as possible since I don't have that Adobe software.

DRM-free EPUB files give you a straight file, but "Download options: EPUB 3 (Adobe DRM)" will send you through Adobe's special software loops.
